Here is a view of Popocatepetl, the active volcano that can be seen from Puebla. It is the second highest mountain in Mexico -- over 17000 ft! It has snow at the top year-round. There are buildings blocking the view of the volcano from our house, so the kids went just around the corner a little ways to take this picture.
This is more of the perspective that we see. The previous picture is a zoomed in version.
Near Popocatepetl is Iztaccíhuatl, the third highest mountain in Mexico. It's an extinct vocano (the smoke in this picture either wafted over from Popocatepetl or is from an airplane or something). There is legend about how this is the lover of Popocatepetl, who was an Aztec Warrior. She dies in sorrow because she hears that he's been killed, which isn't true, and then he builds a funeral pyre for both of them. The gods turn them into mountains so that they can finally be together.
